[Intro]
Right now, for those of you who are taking notes
The way we got our start was by playing in beer gardens, similar to this, near the colleges we went to
Went to a lot of colleges at our fathers' request
And the request of deans, health officials, people like that
Well, you know the type
Anyway, one night we weren't playing at all
We were just sort of just sitting there sipping
When this Ivy League person walked in which was pretty inspirational because he had all the latest khakis and tweeds and ropes and canvases on
You know, like the cologne he used was so manly
It came in hairy bottles which is abstract, uh
But he needed it for more reasons than one
Anyway, he brought with him... you're right she needed it
Anyway, he brought with him into this place a lute guitar
Which has about nine strings, but he didn't play it
You know, sort of vibrated sympathetically stuff he was doing
Yeah, these back-easty type tunes like, uh
"The Bonnie Wee Crawling Duke" or
"Lady Windermere's Operations"
Things that they sing around the League all the time
Well, he was creating quite a bit of inattention
Until he came to this next number
When, by golly, these people began to perk up, you know
And when he was through the response was heart-warming
Especially to us singers
Because the whole place stood up as one man and walked out
