Two little boys had two little toys
Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played, one summers day
Warriors both, of course
One little chap
He had a mishap
He broke off his horses head
And he wept for his toy
But then he laughed for joy
Whenever his brother said

Do you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on me horse for two
So climb up here Joe and stop your crying
While I can mend your horse with glue
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And then maybe Joe we'll remember
When we were two little boys

10 years have passed and the war came so fast
And bravely they marched away
And a cannon roared loud, in the wild crowd
Where wounded, and dying Joe lay
Then comes a cry and a horse dashes by
Out from the ranks of the blue
It galloped away, to where Joe lay
And then came a voice he knew;
