But they're borderline scared to tell us that some of these ideas to them don't make any sense because they're afraid of the way that we went our frustrations. And I think, I told her that that's where a lot of the shit comes from. Nobody's happy in a particular situation
We're all borderline used to screaming at each other. Niggas don't take this shit personally and then, you know, white motherfuckers do take this shit personally, you know what I mean. It's cultural fucking difference of getting screamed at, you think your fucking life is over because ain't nobody ever screamed at you. Our mom and pops are fucking screaming at us all our fucking lives. So it ain't, it's like, we gotta whole different vibe on being screamed at
I said, you know, as far as dealing with her, we sort of gotta channel our frustration a little bit differently but for her not to get to the point where she's ready to just flip the fuck out and, you know, I mean all that
The shit that scared me was bringing up all that concept of dropping the fucking group. At this point, it's so fucked up that's it's just, why ever even say that shit because you guys would never be back out. It would be like 2 years, whatever neighbourhood you go to, they're gonna roll this: oh, The Roots are fucked up, they hard to deal with, blah blah blah
I mean, saying shit like that, it's just fucking like WHAT? Where did that shit come from? That shit just scared me cos it's like, not to her. I said this is the situation: we're not getting dates, we're the ones that's out here first. We are scared. We're the ones that go into record stores, don't see the product somewhere. We go down here, y'all haven't talked to this person
It's not like we don't think that everybody's trying to make this project happen. It's just that there's things that are in effect and we don't know how else to tell you. Like everybody in the band, we don't all have the best fucking communication skills as far as when people get pissed off. People get pissed off, they vent their frustrations, that's what we're used to doing, know what I'm saying
But I think it comes from being scared. We're out here, sitting out here like ducks. These, these guys are very talented; they don't wanna be fucked up because of the label, they would rather be fucked up because of their music. But at the point where you think your music is good and your music is definitely better than some of these other motherfuckers and their shit is selling more than yours then it only looks like the label
(You know I'm saying?)
And I explained that to her and she, you know, she's like "we're moving positive", blah blah blah blah blah blah. But she's like I just, she's like borderline, basically like look, I'm ready to give the fuck up because. . . . . oh shit, somebody just hit the fucking rental car
{Questlove laughs}
Questlove: Yo, somebody just hit the rental car (laughs)
What the fuck is going on? Yo man
{Questlove laughs}
Questlove: Somebody just crashed the car?
