Outside the last remaining shadows of the day
Too vague to make out
De Chirico has packed his case and left
Abandoning his stakeout
Inside the music and the lights unite
To overpower the fading day
In here with you beside me, warm and dry and safe
My mind begins to stray

(I see reflections of what was and what could be
In dark and light they dance around me
Ambition, memories, fears, hope and fantasies)

Crucial words never said
All the good that you spread
Each a fragment of meaning to me

Who else amongst the dancing crowd
Can share the sense that we are falling
Above the sound who else can hear and see
The fates as they are calling
That vision is a blessing, is an error
Time can only sweep away
Insight is there to guide us
We ignore its message in our own display
