I suggested we be friends, it’s stupid being cordial
Why must I invite acquaintances into my quarters?
He smells out of Hollister, he’s dressed in business formal
I should’ve guessed by now
Boys like him, they make moves quick, they couldn’t risk my shelf life
I miss setting expectations higher than my belt line
I forget what plain appreciation ever felt like
I say I’ll let him out

Don’t make jokes about how I’ll be in bed
When did parents stop teaching respect?

I’m a pessimist, I’m so jaded
Set a boundary, he’ll invade it
What is wrong with this generation?
To take “no” as an invitation

Trial two, I call him “dude”, I make sure to be forward
I turn on Avengers, then he switches it to horror
Told him I don’t want a lover, just a friend who’s loyal
That’s when it all goes south

Don’t act like my words aren’t what they seem
Not sorry to bruise your fragile self esteem
