Hugh Now My Child Ye Banished Privateers

Hugh Now My Child - Ye Banished Privateers
Thirty-four years ago, a fatherless son, in the ashes of Charles Town I was born
My dad gave his life, for his baby and wife,he was shot by Juan de Alarcón
As the Spaniards returned by the end of the year, there I my first memory acquired
From my big sister's arms, saw the the blazing barn when my mom did perish in the fire

So hush now my child, put your sorrows aside
For the greater good we must sacrifice
For our free colony, for the trade overseas
For Bourbon, for Spain or for England

As our town was rebuilt the following year, we witnessed the Englishmen return
And my sister was hanged for bedding a man, that had from the Spanish fleet adjourned
Then Nassau was sacked, when the Bourbon attacked and into the woods we did escape
There I met a man who told me his plan how our own fate he thought that we could shape

Hush now my child, put your sorrows aside
For the greater good we must sacrifice
For our free colony, for the trade overseas
For Bourbon, for Spain or for England

So I joined a crew called the Flying Gang and we fought for our own sovereignty
With my pistol in hand for the sake of our land, I spread terror and death across the seas
In a mighty blockade, we crippled the trade, had the freedom from Europe in our view
It’d been long overdue to start something new, from the ashes of tyranny we grew

Hush now my child, put your sorrows aside
For the greater good we must sacrifice
For our free colony, for the trade overseas
For Bourbon, for Spain or for England
